40 weeks today

Dear little soul

What a special day it is. The day that, theoretically, we your Soul Mama and Papa will meet you.

The weekend just gone, we did a home-studio photoshoot and this was the result:

There you are, beautiful and loved by us.

At 2am this morning, I felt contractions. I remember thinking, "oh boy, this really hurts. I don't think I want to do this. Well, not for 14 hours!" I went back to bed, hoping that it was a false alarm and that it'd go away.

It isn't even a long story, but I'll cut it short. Within a few hours, the doula and the midwife had arrived and I was dilated by 6cm! They were already asking where the baby clothes were, that's how fast you wanted to come!

Still, you took your time making the twist through my pelvis, and that took 1 hour and 45 minutes (about 45 minutes longer than is recommended!) But overall, the birth plan was stuck to, by you, me and your Soul Papa! We took on the contractions together, all three of us, and there were no painkillers, no episiotomy and no stitches.

Late morning you arrived and not long after - with the help of an injection (not in the birth plan, but the only part of our wish list that didn't come true!) - your placenta arrived too. Only after that happened did we cut the cord.

The funniest thing is, that I always thought that you'd be a girl and that you'd be late.

How wrong that gut feeling was! (Soul Papa thought you'd come very soon, and that you'd be a boy. He couldn't be more correct!)

So, on your due date, you arrived at 10.50am and you, my dear little soul, are the result:
Milo Isaac van Ras, 52 cm long, 3,820g. Perfect in every way.
